Farmers across India have been protesting for months. Here's why
Farmers in India are flooding to the nations capitol, where the police has barricaded the farmers out, to protest three agriculture reforms that they think will be harmful to their industry. The reformation would allow the farmers to sell their crops to anyone at any price, which takes away the guaranteed price the government has set for them now, giving freedom to the farmers.
This caught my eye for a couple of reasons. First, I was intrigued by how protest are handled in other democracies, especially the worlds largest. The police have kept the protesters from entering Delhi and have forced the protest to take place on the outskirts of the capitol where it can be controlled. I was also intrigued by the fact that it was farmers rallying together and doing the protest. I wonder what that would look like in America but I bet it would be a good time. Lastly I was interested in why giving the farmers freedom to sell to whoever they want was a bad thing. In this case choice is bad because it will allow for big companies to drive the price of crops down in years when the supply far exceeds the demand.
